Phantogram. Jimmy Fallon. February 2.

That’s right.  This is big.  Big big big big big big.

My current favorite local band Phantogram – yes, I have “Mouthful of Diamonds” and “As Far as I Can See” on one of my road-trip driving CD’s – will make their national television debut on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon on his February 2nd episode.  More information at this blog link.

This is some serious Capital District synchronicity here.  Fallon attended Saint Rose (and later received an honorary degree); and he’s referenced the Capital District on his talk show several times.  I believe he picked Siena to win the NCAA tournament last year.

I don’t know what song or songs Phantogram are going to play – I’m pretty sure they’d have to go with “Mouthful of Diamonds,” or maybe “When I’m Small” or “You Are the Ocean” or “Running from the Cops” or a litany of other tracks.

And if you can’t wait for Phantogram on Jimmy Fallon, they’re going to appear this weekend on the Capital District’s own Glenn Slingerland Situation.  This is nothing new, Glenn’s been playing Phantogram music for a while on his show; but this time the pop duo will be interviewed on camera.  The air date is Sunday night, January 23rd at 11pm on MyNetwork 4 (WNYA), with a rebroadcast on January 30, 2011 at 11:00 a.m.  No word on whether Josh Carter gets to hold the mysterious barrel, or if that restraining order Sarah Barthel has on Ace Clayton is still valid.

So you want to know why Phantogram deserves a national TV appearance?

Exhibit A.  “Mouthful of Diamonds.”

Exhibit B.  “As Far As I Can See.”

Exhibit C.  “You Are the Ocean.”

Exhibit D.  “Running From the Cops.”

Yeah.  This is major.
